We often hear the cliche “crime doesn’t pay” bandied about when we are children, when adults still attempt to shape our characters according to the world of high ideals. But now that we are grown, we more fully understand that this is not always the case. Sometimes doing the wrong thing is exactly what one must do to gain the life experience one needs to learn an important lesson or move forward into uncharted areas. And if you are a celebrity, the sensationalism attached to scandalous behavior can actually be extremely lucrative. We are not saying that you should go out an commit a felony to promote your next album — which horribly failed Remy Ma. But it is clear that in the area of wrongdoing, ideals aside, the world is not painted in black and white. Let’s take a look at the life experiences of these stars, for whom crime actually did pay. It’s not their fault we love it when they are bad.

This hip-hop megastar is just getting out of jail — for the second time no less — but has already inked a book deal for a work of fiction and a reality TV series that are surely worth millions. It is safe to say that his time away enriched his life story, promoted his brand through news reports, and left audiences thirsting for more. Through his book he can share an imagination-infused version of his life. Through the show, he will elaborate on the gory details of his bid, portray his adjustment to life outside, and even use these platforms to illustrate yet another peronal redemption — on top of the last time he got out of jail. According to CBSNews.com, upon his release, T.I. posted on Twitter: “The storm is over & da sun back out. IT’S OUR TIME TO SHINE SHAWTY!!!!! Welcome to the beginning of our Happy Ending!!!!” Let’s hope it’s a good one.
